The Department of Defense has a lot going on, but even in the midst of global unrest and shadowy espionage, they still pay attention to what their soldiers want. And what their soldiers want is pizza. More accurately, they want “lightweight individual field rations”—known as MRE’s (meals ready to eat)—and they want it to be pizza. The trouble is, soldiers can’t be hauling refrigerators along with them wherever they go, and the DoD has a solution: pizza that stays fresh for up to three years.
“You can basically take the pizza, leave it on the counter, packaged, for three years and it’d still be edible,” said Michelle Richardson, a food scientist at the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center.
Can you imagine? This is great for soldiers, of course, but it’s really good news for any honest person out there who is tired of refrigerating their pizza. Now, any time can be pizza time …
