The hospital that treated Eric Garner, the New York man who died after a policeman placed him in a chokehold, has agreed to pay $1 million to the family, according to The Associated Press. The video of an officer taking down Garner went viral last year and was the subject of considerable outrage across the country. The AP reports that the settlement with Richmond University Medical Center is confidential and not part of the $5.9 million agreement announced by the city. According to court documents, “the EMTS did not conduct the appropriate examination” of Garner and “failed to provide him with the necessary life-saving procedures.”
