Horsemeatgate: The Saga Continues

Remember a few days ago when we posted these stories about horsemeat showing up in meals in British Burger Kings and the frozen food sections of grocery stores in Europe? Well, we’ve got some good news and some bad news. The good news is, some of it might not be horsemeat after all. The bad news is, it’s probably donkey meat. According to this story from The Independent, the whole scandal may be the result of a recent law passed in Romania that bans horse-drawn carts from public roads. Officials believe that thousands of Romanian horses may have been shipped to slaughterhouses. And because donkeys were also prohibited from being used for transportation as part of the new law, food officials now say there’s a good chance that much of the meat now in circulation is donkey meat …
