Here Are the Worst Meals in America

Before you start making your weekend dinner plans, you may want to read this story. The Center for Science in the Public Interest has released their latest “Xtreme Eating Awards,” outlining the worst restaurant meals in America based on the amount of sodium, sugar, fat and calories found on menu items. The campaign is part of an effort to raise awareness about public health—specifically the consequences of eating out and not being aware of the nutritional information. A Red Robin Gourmet Burger meal consisting of a “Monster-sized” A.1. Peppercorn gourmet burger, Bottomless steak fries and a Monster Salted Caramel Milkshake took home the top spot with 3,540 calories, followed closely by Joe’s Crab Shack’s “The Big ‘Hook’ Up Platter” with 3,280.

Though the other restaurants with items on the list—including The Cheesecake Factory, Famous Dave’s, Maggiano’s, BJ’s and Chevy’s—didn’t break the 3,000 calorie mark, they all either exceeded or came close to exceeding the daily recommended calories for an adult. As the Chicago Tribune notes, in the future, restaurants with more than 20 locations may be required to list calories for each item on the menu. Until then eat Paunch Burger at your own risk …
