George Lucas Is Building a $1 Billion Museum of His ’Star Wars’ Junk

After an initial failed attempt, it seems we will get a George Lucas museum after all.

Lucas released two renderings for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, both in California, one in San Francisco and the other in Los Angeles, but Los Angeles will be the new location for the billion dollar endeavor.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the museum would open on the only fitting date: May 4, 2020.

The museum will display Lucas’ personal affects including things from Star Wars and his other movies, photographs and other traditional art and paintings.

Everyone involved has been clear from the beginning that this will not be a “Star Wars museum.”

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said at a press conference: “This is a collection of narrative art in a city that has the best storytellers and storymakers in the world. The best collection of Norman Rockwell paintings on Earth. Works from R. Crumb.”

According to THR, the construction will bring about 1,500 temporary jobs to the area, as well as 350 permanent jobs.
