Gender Bias: Women in Hollywood Earn Less After They Hit 34

According to a new study published in the Journal of Management Inquiry, women in Hollywood hit their peak earning age at just 34, after which, the amount of money they make begins to steadily decline. As a comparison, men in Hollywood don’t start earning less until after the age of 51. The study also found that women in their 20s in Hollywood, earn more than men of the same age. As USA Today points out, though exceptions, like 64-year-old Meryl Streep, do exist, the study seems to indicate a gender bias when it comes to valuing a youthful appearance: The researchers noted, “Men’s well-worn faces are thought to convey maturity, character and experience. A woman’s face, on the other hand, is valued for appearing young.” The new research is just the latest in a series of revelations that show a disheartening pattern of gender inequality in Hollywood …
