FBI: Hospice Care Killed Patients in Texas for a Profit

In some of those most disturbing news in an already dark news cycle, the owner of a medical company reportedly told nurses from Hospice—an end-of-life care company—to speed up patients’ deaths so the company could make more money. FBI investigators report that Brad Harris, who founded Novus Healthcare Services in Frisco, Texas, instructed his nurses to overdose patients and identify patients who would die within 24 hours. According to The Dallas Morning News texts between Harris and the nurses included wildly disgusting comments like, “You need to make this patient go bye-bye.” An affidavit to the FBI report alleges that Harris made other comments like “If this f***** would just die.” In at least one case, a nurse refused to follow Harris’s orders. The The Dallas Morning News says the FBI began its investigation in October 2014, based on allegations that Novus was regularly recruiting patients “who did not qualify for services.” Somehow, no charges have been filed against Novus or Harris yet.
