Michael Fassbender, aka "The Internet's Boyfriend," is going to be co-producing and starring in a film adaptation of Ubisoft's crazy popular videogame, Assassin's Creed. This is great movie news, obviously, because every single video game movie ever made has been a runaway creative and commercial success ...

It sounds cliche, but the reason most video game films haven't been successful is because the producers don't respect the original source material at all. In interviews, there's always the excuse of "well, it's just a video game," and they boast about their "re-tooled" take on the story, with invented secondary characters and new scenarios that were never part of the game's world.
Seems like no one in Hollywood can accept that fansare emotionally invested in the original games because they *already have* worthy stories and characters. The goal should be to recreate those existing elements on a larger and more comprehensive scale, not to toss them out with the dishwater .It sounds like Ubisoft is trying to avoid this problem at all costs by keeping a tight grip on this film's development and production. Fassbender is a class act, so I hope this turns out well and opens the door for great game films in the future, because some of 'em are just begging for it. Case in point: BioShock.
