Will.i.am, member of the Black Eyed Peas and space-explorer, is looking to jump on board the reality tv train with his own idea: "an American Idol for young wizards." Basically, the idea is to make a reality game show of technology, in which the contestants test their "STEM" (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) skills instead of whatever America's Got Talent tests. Will.i.am says that his show would create "a more lasting impact, potentially creating a new product and creating jobs. Every year, companies like Google need more innovators, but there is no content celebrating them... The system thinks people are dumb and they don’t care. We have no desire to make them care. We need creative people working with broadcasters, making smart content to inspire people to be geniuses.” This genuinely sounds like an idea with some possibility, despite the fact that the lyricist behind "Boom Boom Pow" may not be the idea candidate for determining true genius ...

I think this is a great idea. And don't underestimate Will.i.am. He's indeed an innovator when it comes to music production and design. We need people with ideas to connect with the people to execute them. Think of the cool stuff that could happen in sustainability, economic stability, better equations to understand quantum mechanics or string theory, algorithms to help sort through our massive stores of data and make new conclusions....

The man may produce music I can't stand, but Will.i.am seems to be a guy who genuinely cares about stuff that most of us would say "matters."
