There’s been a new twist in the case against South African Olympian Oscar Pistorius, who was arrested last week for the murder of his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp. It’s been revealed that the detective investigating the shooting, Hilton Botha, is facing his own charges of attempted murder in connection with a 2011 incident where he and other police officers allegedly open fire on a car full of passengers. According to ABC News, prosecutors say they were not aware of the charges against Botha and that the detective gave a “muddled” testimony, admitting that Pistorius’ version of the events on the evening of the shooting did, in fact, align with the police’s account. There are also reports that Botha mishandled crime-scene evidence. Pistorius, who is a double leg amputee, says he fired shots through a bathroom door believing there was an intruder in the home.
