So, we are burning too much gas. At this point, everyone is aware of that. We are burning too much gas, and sooner or later, it will take a toll on the environment, and on us, and we will have no one to blame but ourselves. In an effort to stave off this grim ending, certain persons have advocated “clean burning natural gas” which certainly sounds nicer than what we’re using now. Alas, it is not so. From The New York Times:
Although burning natural gas as a transportation fuel produces 30 percent less planet-warming carbon dioxide emissions than burning diesel, the drilling and production of natural gas can lead to leaks of methane, a greenhouse gas 30 times more potent than carbon dioxide.Those methane leaks negate the climate change benefits of using natural gas as a transportation fuel, according to the study
So, back to the drawing board …
