Christian Bakers Who Refused to Make Cake for Same-Sex Wedding Pay $135K Fine

An Oregon couple who runs the Sweet Cakes bakery has paid fines totaling about $135,000 after refusing to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, citing their religious beliefs. The Bureau of Labor and Industries ruled that their decision not to make a wedding cake for Laurel and Rachel Bowman-Cryer was unlawful discrimination, and that businesses can not refuse to serve customers based on their sexual orientation.

According to the Huffington Post, they were ordered to pay $75,000 in damages to Rachel and $60,000 to Laurel Bowman-Cryer in damages. An attorney for the Bowman-Cryers said in a statement, that the decision sends "a clear message that discrimination will simply not be tolerated in our state." Aaron and Melissa Klein are appealing that decision. The organization Samaritan’s Purse, which is run by evangelist Franklin Graham, launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the Kleins after a GoFundMe page that had raised about $70,000 was taken down for violating the site’s terms of use.

I feel for the owners of Sweet Cakes Bakery. Not because I'm Christian but because of ethical reasons as to why the other couple had to go this far. One can cite discrimination but you can also walk away to a different location. $135,000 received in damages is unethical.

It seems like both sides are wrong. Why would you want to force someone to produce a product/work of art to celebrate your love against their will? And why would a business owner think that they need they need to agree with the personal moral choices of every customer? Seems like the obvious solution is for the couple to patronize a friendly business and for the Christian business to reconsider the concept of loving service to all.

Oregon has no shame. This is a shakedown on behalf of self-righteous oppressors who have made evil good and good evil, while the media splashed this story everywhere to show their solidarity with godlessness. This couple is being persecuted because of their faith in Christ and stand for righteousness, and yet the persecutors have made themselves out to be the victims. The Lord repay them richly for this perversion of justice. Our country has completely secularized itself, shut itself off from the God who has blessed it for over 200 years. It's despicable, cowardly and vile, but the God of creation will judge the perps of this crime, if not now, then on that Day we all know is coming. I hate this country for what it has become. May our Redeemer return soon and set up his eternal kingdom. Only then will righteousness flow like a river.

This couple is to be applauded because they stood for their DEMOCRATIC right not to be sucked into the moral decay of society.
Human Right is maybe a necessary thing but it leaves the door open (Maybe those who push so hard for it have skeletons in the cupboard they want accepted in Society to not be rejected) for pervert issue, immoral decay and so much more to be pushed down the throats of clean living people who now have NO democratic right to reject issues outside their own Moral and ethical Code.

Why we even have the pulpit convinced that ALL goes and ALL is well.

What did God say to Sodom and Gomorrah and HOW did God deal with it then.

We today we have Aids and so much destructive issues flowing into a MORAL LESS society and we still argue the NOTHING WRONG SLANT.

Let the HUMAN race and society all call on God and say give us your RIGHTEOUS Judgement on the matter and SEE in what way He will pronounce His Holiness and His desire for us to be Holy.

LET all that is WITHIN us CRY Holy Cry Holy is the Lord.

As a young boy growing up abused, neglected and with Prostitutes and Alcoholics often being the prey of people with skew moral codes I remember at the age of 11 I vowed to be pure in the realm of sexual activity and now married for over 50 years at the age of 73 I can say Thank you Lord for being my guide and strength to make,in the midst of like temptations for all, to fulfill that passion.

It is all about decisions and if we need Human Rights to give us permission to be who we want to be then so be it.

Decide today that we will treat our bodies as the temple of God and seek His strength to fulfill it

This is ridiculous! Why should a couple who own a business not be able to make their own business decisions! It's no different from choosing not to sell for reasons of personal preference. Why is that discrimination?
Plus, the number of the fine is outrageous! 135 K! From bakers!

That's a lot of money for not making any cakes. How can I get that job?
