Chick-Fil-A to Cease Donations to Anti-Gay Organizations

The Civil Rights Agenda has released a statement saying that Chick-Fil-A has agreed to stop donating money to organizations that are against gay marriage. Chick-Fil-a wrote into a document that they are going to "treat every person with honor, dignity and respect—regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender” and that their “intent is not to engage in political or social debates.” Among the groups that Chick-Fil-A will no longer support are the National Organization for Marriage and Focus on the Family.

Update: This may not hurt NOW's pocket books much. According to President Brian Brown, Chick-Fil-a, "never gave to us" ...

Let's put it this way. If I worked for an open anti-Semite who's business proceeds go to anti-Semitic groups fighting against Jews getting married because the don't fit my definition of marriage as a "Christian," don't you think if I'm his employee I would expect some kind of fallout that's warranted? Working for the man would be unconscionable to begin with.

Let me drive two other points home now that I'm here. The whole chic-fil-a fiasco was not so much standing with Dan Cathy on the definition of marriage as it was a "Screw you gays!" type of sentiment that was behind it. It wasn't lost on the gay community the defiance so-called Christians showed on "Chic-fil-a Appreciation Day" with rubbing it in there face and only confirms what they see as "ugly Christians." Was that the Biblical edict of living peacefully with your neighbor? Is that an example of loving your (gay) neighbor as yourself? Was that Christ-like? A true Christian (and many true Christians did) would stand with the gay protesters outside of Chic-fil-a with showing the empathy Christ would have shown, not laugh at the protesters about it while sticking greasy chicken sandwiches in their mouths on the news.
The second thing was how Dan Cathy was punished for what he believed in by the "bad ol' gays." I guess It's not O.K for gays to boycott and protest those who oppose them, but it's O.K. to boycott Disneyland by the Baptists because they give same sex benefits to their employees. Or how about the protest and boycotts of General Mills for doing the same. Don't forget the protests and boycotts of JCPennys because they have lesbian Ellen Degeneres as a spokesperson. Forgot about THOSE boycotts for punishing people for what they believe in didn't you?

Agreed, once you enter the political or public eye it is your civic duty to check your beliefs at the door. Because showing love is best done by pretending you agree with everyone.

In its statement Thursday, Chick-fil-A wrote:

A part of our corporate commitment is to be responsible stewards of all that
God has entrusted to us. Because of this commitment, Chick-fil-As giving
heritage is focused on programs that educate youth, strengthen families and
enrich marriages, and support communities. We will continue to focus our giving
in those areas. Our intent is not to support political or social agendas.
