Atlanta Archbishop Apologizes for 2.2 Million Dollar Home

When Wilton Gregory, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Atlanta, Georgia, received a $15 million gift three years ago, he set aside 2 million of it to build a new home for himself. However, this was all pre-Pope Francis, and things have looked a little different since the new Pope has taken the world stage. Now, the Archbishop has publicly apologized for his home, saying:

I personally failed to project the cost in terms of my own integrity and pastoral credibility with the people of God of north and central Georgia. I failed to consider the impact on the families throughout the Archdiocese who, though struggling to pay their mortgages, utilities, tuition and other bills, faithfully respond year after year to my pleas to assist with funding our ministries and services.

He is taking the matter to church representatives, who will determine the best course of action for dealing with the home and the land. The case comes after Pope Francis’ no-nonsense handling of Germany’s “Bishop of Bling” Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst, who was suspended over controversy following the $55 million renovation of his home …
