Archie is sort of hard to explain. He’s been in high school for the past thousand years (approximately), forever torn between the two women who would have his heart. But beyond that, what does anyone really know about him? Where did he come from? What are his dreams? Why does his friend wear that paper crown thing? So many questions, which we may never have answers to. But we will soon know one thing: the manner of his demise. Yes, Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater has revealed to CNN that Life With Archie #36 will see Archie’s untimely death, with all the somber gravitas fans(?) have come to expect from Archie(?).
But fear not, Archie fans. Just because this comic will show us how Archie dies does not—for better or worse—spell the end of Archie Comics. This is merely a glimpse into Archie’s future. Goodness knows that there are many, many more stories to be told about his high school years, and that series will continue on and presumably outlive us all …
