Apple Launches New RED Campaign to Raise Money for AIDS/HIV Victims

For a two-week window starting later this month, you won’t have to feel guilty for wasting countless hours goofing around on your iPhone. Apple has announced a new campaign in partnership with RED to raise money for the Global Fund in an effort to provide drugs and treatment to AIDS victims. For the new “Apps for RED” project, from Nov. 28 – Dec. 7, 25 of Apple’s top app makers were challenged to create special RED additions to their games, from special in-game purchases to a RED sponsored tournaments.

Bono’s RED campaign, which first launched in 2006, is a humanitarian partnership with consumer goods-providers to create specially branded products, with some proceeds going to the fight against AIDS. In a statement, an Apple executive explained, “We’ve been involved with RED from the beginning and have raised $75 million, but we were convinced there was an opportunity to get people to rediscover this cause.” Also, on World AIDS Day (Dec. 1), Apple will be donating a portion of all sales to The Global Fund …
