Apple Just Patented Technology That Could Disable Your Camera at Concerts

Apple was just approved for a patent on technology that would disable smartphone cameras during concerts. The idea is to keep concert-goers from recording the show. So now you might have to just listen to music and interact with other humans at concerts.

The patent describes the technology as receiving coded signals from public places and then either disabling the camera of the phone or offering a pop-up screen with information. The pop-up screen option could be used in museums and other places for self-guided walking tours.

The disabling of the cameras would be a win for the music industry, which works hard to keep concert footage from leaking—but it could be a major source of annoyance to concert-goers. Because, what are all your Facebook friends going to do without your 92-second clip of a hazy concert?
