1 Million Syrian Children Are Now Refugees

According to new reports from two U.N. agencies, the number of Syrian children now living as refugees is more than 1 million. Nearly 740,000 of those are under the age of 11. The nation’s civil war has raged for more than two years, as the military of President Bashar al-Assad fight rebels seeking his ouster—with both sides showing little regard for protecting innocent civilian lives. The U.N. agencies warn that these children face a number of threats including exploitation, trafficking, early marriage and illegal child labor. The head of UNICEF, the U.N. children’s agency, Anthony Lake told CBS News, “This one millionth child refugee is not just another number. This is a real child ripped from home, maybe even from a family, facing horrors we can only begin to comprehend” …
