Weird though it may be, it's also a "staple" in Newfoundland, and can be found in the supermarkets in a variety of forms.

My hubby used to consume it when we were first wed, but has since ceased. He also used to buy and BBQ it for the dog.

I tried it. It's definitely "earthy", but, like the article says - using up every bit of the butchered animal is thrifty and definitely a necessity in past times.
