Cornerstone Festival Ending

The Cornerstone Festival, which has been one of the longest-running festivals for Christian music, has announced that 2012 will be its last year. Festival organizers say the decision was reached for many reasons, including the difficult economy and changes in the market ...

From Cornerstone:

We are so grateful to have been able to share with you the gift that hasbeen Cornerstone Festival all these years. Our annual gathering in thistruly special community has shaped and illuminated our journeys together and apart, beginning in 1984, when the first Cornerstone drew 5000people to a small fairgrounds outside Chicago. Through our peak years in the 90s when tens of thousands celebratedthis festival's amazing unity-in-diversity amid the Midwesterncountryside, to more recent belt-tightening days, we've traveled our ups and downs together in a way that will be a part of our lives forever. In 2012, we'll be celebrating one final Cornerstone Festivaltogether. Based on a range of factors – including changes in the market and a difficult economy – the timing seems right. This was obviously a hard decision, wrestled with over years and particularly over recentmonths. But with the decision made, we have the opportunity to cometogether one last time and bring to a happy, grateful – if tearful –close to this chapter of our lives.

Saw that their line-up is changing due to budgeting...would be classy for several of the bands who got their starts here and are now "bigtime" to do shows pro-bono as a send off.

I was in shock to hear about it.I've been going to cstone from 1984 in Grayslake to their move to Bushnell. In Grayslake , I remember being inside those metal barns (small stage) where it was really hot, some people had heat stroke. Then in Bushnell, the first year there was electrical problems on some stages. growing pains. One of the electrical linesman replacing a pole transformer mentioned to me that he has never seen so many people jam packed in a small area.an instant tent city. Then on mainstage a natural sound stage loaded with a lot of people.
Oh yes , that cornerstone dust never ending dust. it is just so close to nature. Oh yes, about those heavy rain it just become mudville USA,part of old mainstage was a mudslide so many kids using cardboards ,carmats sliding down on it.
I've seen a lot of bands played and seminars that open your eyes.I"ve met people from different parts of the world just to be there. For one week of the year to mingle with other followers its nothing like it at all.I just hope that we can live in this world like that.

This is the Church. The Body of Christ. The MUSIC,THE MESSAGE OF LOVE PERSONIFIED.

OH NO! We are from South Africa and travelled to JPUSA in 1986. We servedin the communityand at Cornerstone. We were challenged by your witness. God spoke to us (my husband andI, no children then!) and we returned to SA to start Hands of Compassion in Johannesburg - a community where we chose to live simply, and racially integrated as a witness of reconciliation (the 80's saw terrible atrocities). We returned with our two older kids around 1993. Last year our daughtervisitted and attended Cornerstone. We love you guys (Glenn, Wendi, Neil, and many others). And yes there are seasons for everything. So with a very sore heart we say GoodbyeCornerstone from SouthAfrica. Your light shonebright for Jesus. You played a majorpart in our ministry here in Johannesburg. To God be all the glory.
