The wintry winds gusting between the buildings of downtown Oklahoma City got pretty dangerous last week. Sometimes they picked up tables, or caused bloody lips by hurdling dry erase boards through the air. Let's just say this wasn't the ideal place to try and end the longest running war in Africa.

Q&A: Invisible Children's Jason RussellInvisible Children has been one of the more famous social justice organizations over the last few years. They made a movie about the plight of child soldiers in Uganda which turned into a global movement. Most recently, they were in the news for winning Chase Community Bank’s $1 million prize for a nonprofit. We recently talked to Invisible Children co-founder Jason Russell about what the million dollars will help with and how social justice can be more than a T-shirt trend.

Today, like a jagged boundary line on a map, a scar juts down the plateau of his forehead, across the bridge of his nose, and up the slope of his right cheek. It is impossible to look into Emmanuel’s eyes without seeing this deep cut, a mark of division etched across his face—and the face of Rwanda—15 years after the genocide.

For the rest of the jaded, removed world, the very word Darfur may no longer elicit that wave of angry, impassioned, urgent cry that has arisen in response to the ongoing civil war taking place there. It’s been years, after all, and combined with frequent headlines, impossible statistics and other global crises, it’s natural that the world’s collective attention would flicker elsewhere.
