Life After Death Research Project Has a Reasonable Price Tag

Researchers at UC Riverside have been awarded a $5 million grant to spend the next three years figuring out, once and for all, whether or not there is any life after death. John Martin Fischer, a professor philosophy, sure seems confident that he can la the question to rest once and for all. “Our approach will be uncompromisingly scientifically rigorous,” he says. “We’re not going to spend money to study alien-abduction reports. We will look at near-death experiences and try to find out what’s going on there — what is promising, what is nonsense, and what is scientifically debunked.” This raises a series of questions, chiefly, how do you prove what happens after you die? But if we can put a rover on Mars, maybe five million dollars can get some eyes into the afterlife too …
