Virtual Reality is About to Change Entertainment Forever

After countless ’80s movies alluded to it, the virtual reality revolution is finally here. Soon, the Oculus Rift (which Facebook acquired for a staggering $2 billion) will join virtual reality devices from companies like Sony and HTC, all hoping to make VR kits one day as indispensable as smartphones. With Sony and Oculus already commissioning films specifically for the new technology, and tons of games on the way, the way you experience entertainment may soon never be the same.

###Oculus Rift

($350) Plugs into DVI and USB ports on a computer and tracks your head movements so it can add a 3-D experience to its stereo screens.

###Avegant Glyph

($499) You wear this one like headphones, and it uses “micro mirrors” to reflect an image directly into your retinas. No lie.

###Microsoft Hololens

($800) Works with Windows Holographic, a new technology that adds 3-D images around you, so users see holographic images floating in front of them.

###HTC Vive

Wants to allow you to move around a room. The idea is that you can get up, walk and move around virtual objects—like in the movies. Available by Christmas.
