Let’s face it: cable and satellite TV have gotten too expensive. They keep going up in price, and even though you get fancier things with each upgrade (like DVR and HD), it’s ridiculous to pay $100 each month just to watch TV. But you also have shows you like. And maybe even some shows that are good for you to watch (no, not Jersey Shore).
Thanks to the Internet, it’s easier than ever to cut the cable without having to give up some of your favorites. All you need is an Internet connection and a device that can hook up to your TV (which you probably already own). If you have a Wii, Playstation 3 or an Xbox 360, you can download the Netflix app. You’ll need a basic Netflix subscription ($8 per month) and then you can stream everything available in Netflix streaming.
You could also invest in a set-top box, like a Roku (about $80) or an Apple TV (about $100). These devices will both let you get Netflix, and Roku has the ability to get Hulu Plus, which is Hulu with every season of every show they have. You can also access Hulu Plus (which is also $8 per month) on Playstation 3.
If you don’t want to subscribe or want an unavailable movie/TV show, you can go a la carte. Pretty much all of the above options have their own “stores” (except the Wii). And if none of these options sound appealing, you can hook your computer directly to your TV, which will give you every option you can think of since almost every major network now in high definition.
