RELEVANT Recommends

Well, Lone Ranger is a dud. So strange. You'd think an ancient radio drama would translate perfectly to the big screen, but that's just one of the way life surprises you. Fortunately there's still plenty of things for you to do over the weekend, including a few gems in theaters. Go see for yourself.

Five Star Billionaire

Why We Like It

Tash Aw's tale of greed and power in Shanghai ostensibly weaves various tales of rich people and poor people's rise and fall, but it's actually a tale about the high cost of progress, and how everything has a cost.

The Way, Way Back

Why We Like It

It's getting Little Miss Sunshine comparisons, which is high praise for any movie, but the real muscle here is in writer/director Jim Rash (he's the Dean on Community) who's been quietly building a name for himself as Hollywood's go-to name for funny, poignant drama. Some light objectionable sexual content aside, this tender coming-of-age tale has plenty to teach.

56 Up

Why We Like It

Every seven years, Michael Apted catches up with fourteen people he began interviewing back in 1964. The result is a series of documentaries that's so good, it sounds like you're exaggerating when you try to describe how good it is. The latest installment, 56 Up is out on DVD this week and is absolutely not to be missed.

Despicable Me 2

Why We Like It

Just like its inspired predecessor, Despicable Me 2 is so much better than it ought to be. If you've got kids, you've probably already made plans to see it this weekend. If you don't, that shouldn't stop you.
