When he was with the New York Times, he won the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the war on terrorism, and one of his 11 books, War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning (2003), was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction. His most recent work is a collection called The World As It Is: Dispatches on the Myth of Human Progress.
